 While her clients may never know the full extent of her mental investment in their projects, Andrea Houck’s creative energy is evident in the beautiful spaces she has been designing in the Washington, DC, area for ten years. When Andrea takes on an interior design project, she can’t turn it off. Going for a walk, looking at magazines, or vacationing with family…Andrea is always considering fresh approaches and pondering the details of her clients’ projects. Creating one’s home environment is a personal journey. In Andrea’s design projects, the client’s personality and style – whether traditional, modern or somewhere in between – come through. Some clients begin the journey not knowing what their style is. With almost 20 years of client-driven design experience, Andrea knows how to draw out of her clients their preferences and guide them through the process. Andrea begins each interior design project by meeting with clients to discuss their likes and dislikes. Often she’ll ask clients to flip through design magazines or she’ll take them shopping at one of Washington’s design destinations to identify elements they like. Andrea gets to know both her clients and their space. By asking thoughtful questions, she finds out how they use the space and how they want the space to function. Clients appreciate Andrea’s thorough design presentations. Possessed with an innate sense of color, scale, balance and rhythm, Andrea can envision how a finished space will look before beginning work. She wants to instill in her clients the same level of confidence that all the pieces will come together beautifully. Andrea provides clients with perspective renderings and scale floor plans to ensure that everyone sees the project in the same way. Spending time up front on the design process and these visuals helps avoid costly mistakes later. Andrea’s organized, disciplined approach to design produces consistent results – spaces that her clients love! While the finished rooms reflect the homeowners, there are certain signature elements in each of Andrea’s designs – an awareness of how light affects the space and the use of light-reflecting surfaces, from glass and acrylic to high-gloss paint.
